Customizing My Website Theme

Widgets are used to customize side bars, headers and footers on your website. Five common widgets are clickable pages, clickable post, recent comments, search box, and clickable list of categories. While you can update several widgets, I chose to update the footer center and footer top because it added to the overall purpose of my website. I also updated colors on my site, using colors that would be associated with my page.

Scheduling a design change is beneficial because it keeps the website fresh, the updates you are making can be reviewed before they go live and the updates will go live letter without you.

My Website Theme

WordPress has several external theme options such as themeisle.com, elegant themes.com, and themeforest.com when choosing a theme for your website. And WordPress even has its own database with a large variety of options to use for your WordPress website. However, when you are picking a theme for your website you must make sure the theme is not infringing on someone else’s work and its structured in a way that will work for your product.

The files that should be included in a WordPress site include a style.css file and an index.php file and the style.css file must have the basic theme information in its initial lines. The decision matrix used to evaluate my website helped me make sure people will understand the concept and hopefully help them remember a little of their past. I want to make sure I can remember my grandmother, bringing back parts of her kitchen and sharing great food receipts. I used the wp-admin to install my theme; it was so easy.

My Website Security and Users

Security is important in every aspect, but on the internet it’s even more essential. People can hide behind their computers and steal anything from money, identities, and even property. So having every layer of protection for your website is necessary. Three ways to help secure your website are by using strong passwords, adding secure plugins, and keeping the site updated.

You will also want to make sure any user you have involved in your website/business are trusted individuals. So, my website will have two administrators, at lease one editor, an author, at least one contributor and hopefully countless subscribers.

My administrators will, of course, have full control of the website and two are needed just in case I am unavailable. However, my editor will control how the website looks and what is posted. The editor will give the business the pop that is needed to bring the targeted audience.  My author is important because they will create topics for the audience that hopefully will be remembered in detail. And my subscribers, well while they will have no control over the website, they will hopefully keep coming back again and again for great content.

External Storage and File Sharing

Making sure your website is backed up is very important, maybe one of the most important tasks as a website creator. Three backup services that are compatible with WordPress are UpdraftPlus, DropBox, and Google Cloud. Using these backup services will keep your website content just in case you are faced with unexpected site issues.

UpdraftPlus is very user friendly, easy to use and easy setup and is known to have good customer support. However, some people claim there are issues with the software and its integration.

Dropbox has a number of amazing features but its also easy to use which makes it popular, it has security features which gives your website an extra layer of piece of mind, and it has a file recovery option which is great because you will be able to recovery any work or files you may have deleted in error. While Dropbox has its perks there are a few issues to be aware of like the limited free space, the cost of extra space, and privacy concerns.

Google Cloud is another good option for a backup service and has been known for its scalability and flexibility, reasonable cost, and strong security. However, anyone using google cloud should be aware of geographical limitations, onboarding is confusing, and it’s not compatible with a lot of other applications.

What I’ve Learned About Plugins

Plugins are small scripts that let you include new functions in your WordPress site. Adding functions to your website makes it easier and more interesting for your audience. Unless you are a computer developer, plugin is the quickest way to expand your content.

However, you want to make sure the plugins you use for your site are safe and trusted so you can avoid issues with your website, such as hackers and viruses. You also want to make sure the plugin you use has been recently updated and will continue to update so you are able to keep the functions in plugin accessible on your site,  

WordPress has several plugins to load automatically which is a great benefit for its users. The task bar to the left of the overview screen displays a plugins option, clicking this option will take you to the featured plugins for WordPress and you can also search WordPress for the desired plugin.

Nana’s Kitchen

Walking into Nana’s house was always a great treat, she always had something on the stove or in the over, and the smells were heaven. I know most kids who grew up close to their grandparents can relate to this and sometimes wish they could go back in time. I was lucky enough to remember some those meals and now me and my family enjoy them.

Homemade enchiladas, menudo, migas, chorizo con papas, and tamales are just a few of the favorites. Homemade beans and Spanish rice are also a regular in our house. Albondigas and Caldo con Pollo were and will always be the go-to when we are under the weather. Fambammeals will open the window to these great receipts and a few more honorable mentions.

Remember when you were a child and grandma was cooking in the kitchen? Remember the great smells that reached all over the house and sometimes outside? And do you remember walking into the kitchen just feeling the love in the room, the antioption of eating family dinner?

While some of us may have lost our grandmothers we will never forget the great food, shared family time and love she put into her cooking. In my family, my grandmother was a rock, the center of the family so keeping her receipts alive keeps her close and always in everyone’s minds.

In most cultures, family is everything but sometimes people past and rest of the family forgets about what really matters, and people drift away from each other, but food; food always helps. Good food equals a good time with laughter and love.

I chose FAMBAMMEALS.COM for my website because I want to make sure my family and culture are shared in the world. I loved growing up, with all the great smells and the love my grandmother put into the meals she made. Those times were the best parts of my childhood, and the food was great. And I want to share these meals with others to love.

My website will list a variety of

  • Dinner receipts
  • Dessert
  • Specialyty drinks

FAMBAMMEALS.COM will show the world my personal family heritage, in hopes that others will feel the same and want to know more about the meals, they may also have had growing up. While FAMBAMMEALS.COM my spotlight my favorite meals, I will also have a list of popular meals from my childhood. Sometimes thinking of the past brings warm and great feelings to some people and I want to bring a little of that to my website.
